University of Stirling use a PEAK hydrogen generator in their lab

The Institute of Aquaculture at University of Stirling conducts fatty acid Omega 3 analysis of aquaculture and clinical samples with the help of PEAK's generators.

Name: James Dick
Job Title: Technical Manager
Company: University of Stirling
Location: Stirling, UK

The University of Stirling is one of the most famous universities in Scotland and is a home to one of the largest Institutes of Aquaculture in the world. They have entrusted PEAK with the supply of nitrogen and hydrogen gas in their labs in order to perform fatty acid Omega 3 analysis of aquaculture and clinical samples.

James Dick, technical manager, tells us below how University of Stirling recognize PEAK's product quality and exceptional customer service.

Typically what is the focus of your GC analysis - what sort of applications?

“Fatty acid Omega 3 analysis of aquaculture and clinical samples.”

What PEAK Scientific generators do you have in your laboratory and what GC instruments do they supply?

“PH300 and they supply Thermo Trace GCs.”

What prompted you to choose a PEAK generator and how long have you used it?

“Reliability and excellent customer service.”

What has been the key benefit of deploying PEAK generators as opposed to your previous gas supply solution?

“Increased safety and reliability.”

How would you describe your purchasing experience with PEAK in terms of speed of response, ease of ordering, catering for your needs and timing of delivery?

“Excellent from start to finish.”

Have you ever had a site visit from a PEAK engineer, if so, could you describe your experience of this support?

“We also have Nitrogen generators for LC-MS/MS and have had excellent engineer support.”

Would you recommend PEAK Scientific generators to other laboratories - and if so, what would be your main reason for the recommendation?

“Yes. Fantastic customer service and instrument reliability.”

University of Stirling have been using PEAK Scientific generators to supply hydrogen to their GCs in order to perform Fatty acid Omega 3 analysis of aquaculture and clinical samples for years. PEAK's PH300 which is used in the University’s lab, is an older model of hydrogen generator which is now replaced by the Precision Series – cutting-edge hydrogen, nitrogen and zero air gas generators. Specifically designed for GC and suitable for use as carrier and detector gases, they combine convenience and reliability as well as flexibility in order to suit the specific needs of each lab’s unique GC set up.

Reliability is one of the best features of PEAK gas generators – they produce a consistent purity of gas compared to cylinders as cylinders often have inconsistent purity not only from cylinder to cylinder but also from first to last use.

PEAK generators have also proved safe to the university labs as they only store a minimal amount of gas at any one time, therefore there’s not enough gas stored to reach hydrogen’s lower explosive level. For example, a PEAK Scientific hydrogen gas generator only generates 500cc of hydrogen per minute. In comparison, hydrogen cylinders normally contain 9,000L of hydrogen and a leak can cause the lower explosive level to be reached within minutes.

Not only are PEAK generators the safest lab gas supply option, as James states, but they are also much more efficient and convenient than gas cylinders or other bulk supply methods as they supply gas on demand and no repetitive changing of heavy cylinders is required. With our gas generators it is not necessary to make repetitive orders as you would do with cylinders and your generators will not be subject to market influences and price increases.

PEAK has provided University of Stirling with excellent customer service from start to finish and James has had great experience with PEAK engineers when having his hydrogen and nitrogen generators serviced over a number of years. Our engineers are highly skilled and are solely focused on PEAK gas generators as is reflected by our 95% first-time fix rate on site.
