UC Irvine make the Genius move to in-house nitrogen
UC Irvine was founded with a mission to catalyse the community and enhance lives through bold education, transformative research and purpose drive service. With more than 36,000 students, one of UC Irvine’s missions is to redefine the future with groundbreaking discoveries, from life-saving medical breakthroughs to the frontiers of AI.

We caught up with Lisa Wingen, a Project Scientist at US Irvine, to discuss the work she is doing at UC Irvine and how her PEAK generator is supporting this work.
Typically, what is the focus of your LC-MS analysis - what sort of applications?
Atmospheric chemistry samples ranging from complex laboratory-generated samples to nontargeted ambient samples.
What PEAK Scientific generators do you have in your laboratory and what LC-MS instruments do they supply?
We have the Genius XE in the lab.
What prompted you to choose a PEAK generator for LC-MS and how long have you used it?
We have other systems that do not have one and we knew we would benefit from having one. We have used the current system for 5 years.
What has been the key benefit of deploying PEAK generators for LC-MS as opposed to your previous gas supply solution?
Our key benefit is an unlimited supply of clean nitrogen with very little concern on a day-to-day basis. Dealing with availability of N2 on holidays and weekends is not a concern with this system.
How would you describe your purchasing experience with PEAK in terms of speed of response, ease of ordering, catering for your needs and timing of delivery?
A little rough at the beginning when we were given the 220 V option, but once we switched to the 110 V option, it worked out well.
Have you ever had a site visit from a PEAK engineer in relation to your generator for LC-MS, if so, could you describe your experience of this support?
We had a site visit to change out O-rings on the compressor. He answered many questions for us and showed us the benefits of doing this service. The engineer was very courteous and knowledgeable.
Would you recommend PEAK Scientific generators to other laboratories - and if so, what would be your main reason for the recommendation?
I would absolutely recommend PEAK generators to other laboratories. In fact, I would like two more for our other two laboratories!
