Irish Biofuels is a manufacturer of high quality biodiesel which is compliant with FAMEs EN14214. Currently supplying the Irish and UK bio diesel market, Irish Biofuels has plans in place to expand export of its product to Europe.
The company’s main site near Wicklow Port has been using Peak gas generators for their GC analysis. Nathan Dunphy, who is the laboratory manager at Irish Biofuels tell us about the benefits of using Peak generators in their lab.
Name: Nathan Dunphy
Job title: Laboratory Manager
Company: Irish Biofuels Production Ltd
Country: Ireland, Europe
Typically what is the focus of your GC analysis - what sort of applications?
“QC testing of bio diesel.”
What Peak Scientific generators do you have in your laboratory and what GC instruments do they supply?
“In our lab we have a Precision Hydrogen Trace, Precision Nitrogen, Precision Zero Air, Precision Air Compressor.”
What prompted you to choose Peak generators and how long have you used them?
“I chose Peak because it was a brand I was familiar with and they are known for their customer service. The generators are onsite about 3 months now.”
What has been the key benefit of deploying Peak generators as opposed to your previous gas supply solution?
“My back is no longer subjected to lugging gas bottles around!”
How would you describe your purchasing experience with Peak in terms of speed of response, ease of ordering, catering for your needs and timing of delivery?
“Excellent on all fronts.”
Have you ever had a site visit from a Peak engineer, if so, could you describe your experience of this support?
“Yes, at the time of installation. The engineer was a pleasure to deal with.”
Would you recommend Peak Scientific generators to other laboratories - and if so, what would be your main reason for the recommendation?
“I would recommend Peak - the generators just work away without having to worry about them but then if there ever is an issue I know the people at Peak are a pleasure to work with.”
Irish Biofuels utilize Peak Precision series in their QC testing of bio diesel - their lab uses the Precision Hydrogen Trace generator for GC carrier gas while the Nitrogen and Zero Air generators supply their GC detectors. The air compressor, on the other hand, provides all generators with the high quality compressed air required to generate high purity gas.
The Precision Series has many benefits over traditional sources of laboratory gas such as cylinders. One of them, as Nathan mentions above, is that laboratory staff don’t need to experience the inconvenience of periodically changing and moving heavy cylinders anymore. Another great benefit of switching from cylinders to gas generators is avoiding the health and safety training for laboratory staff when using cylinders. Not only are gas generators more environmentally friendly (no repeating deliveries of cylinders required) but they are also not subject to annual or biannual price increases compared to helium, for example, which is a finite resource with recent supply issues.
Nathan shares that the reason behind choosing Peak generators for Irish Biofuels’ lab is because of the distinctive customer service that Peak provide. The Peak Scientific prides itself in delivering high quality service and unrivalled peace of mind through [Peak Protected] world–class after sales support. As Nathan mentions, Peak's field service engineers are “a pleasure to deal with” due to their dedication and attention to detail that are well reflected by the 97% first-time fix rate on site.
