Soil analysis with Peak Precision
William Tracey is one of the UK’s leading recycling and resource management companies with a full range of environmental services. It delivers bespoke recycling, waste reduction and environmentally friendly solutions for its customers.
Scott Newport has recently had Peak Precision generators installed so that he and his team can provide vital soil analysis for their business. The work William Tracey’s lab do with soil assists their clients with treating and recovery of hazardous and non-hazardous contaminants in soil.
Describing his purchase experience and their generators Scott said:
What Peak Scientific generators do you have in your laboratory and what GC instruments do they supply?
“We have Precision Zero Air, Nitrogen, Hydrogen and Compressed Air units, all supplying our GC-MS and in a single stack which saves space in the lab.”
Typically, what is the focus of your GC analysis - what sort of applications?
“We use our Peak Scientific Precision series stack solely for soil analysis, that is to determine what components make up the soil samples we receive and what, if any, contaminants are present in the soil.”
What prompted you to choose a Peak generator and how long have you used them?
“We purchased our Peak generators as they came highly recommended by Shimadzu, they were bought alongside a GC-MS from Shimadzu.”
What has been the key benefit of deploying Peak generators as opposed to your previous gas supply solution?
“We had no previous gas supply but a Peak gas generator is an advantage to the alternative of having pipework and compressed gas tanks being fitted to supply gas for the GC-MS.”
How would you describe your purchasing experience with Peak in terms of speed of response, ease of ordering, catering for your needs and timing of delivery?
“The generators were all delivered on time and were ordered from Shimadzu alongside our GC-MS. We had no issues with the order process or receiving our generator.”
Have you ever had a site visit from a Peak engineer, if so, could you describe your experience of this support?
“Yes, an engineer came to our lab and fitted the generator. At a later date, we encountered a slight issue and an engineer was required and, again, came to our lab to resolve the issue.”
Would you recommend Peak Scientific generators to other laboratories - and if so, what would be your main reason for the recommendation?
“Gas generators, such as the ones we have purchased from Peak, I think are certainly the way forward for labs in terms of cost saving and safety! I would definitely recommend Peak Scientific generators”
The major benefit for William Tracey’s site was receiving a cost effective solution for their GC-MS. With soil analysis being one of the more crucial aspects of their business, downtime needs to be kept to an absolute minimum.
With their Peak gas generator, Wiliam Tracey were able to take advantage of Peak's comprehensive on-site service, [Peak Protected], when an issue arose a Peak engineer visited their site within 72 hours and fixed the problem, this service offering is available to all Peak generators the world over. This is unique in the gas generator market place as the majority of gas generator manufacturers require the user to send their equipment to a centralised location increasing the amount of time the user's equipment is non-operational.
Furthermore, with a reliable, on-site, on demand gas generator from Peak Scientific the company is able to perform its analysis without worrying about the downtime associated with inconsistent cylinder deliveries or fluctuating purity from near empty cylinders. William Tracey also get peace of mind from price volatility, which occurs with bulk gas supply due to the price of gas being dictated by supply and demand on a local and global level. They also did not have to install an expensive internal pipework system to deliver gas to their GC-MS.
Safety is also a concern for most labs with cylinders. This concern is two-fold with, on one hand, having highly pressurized gas in a confined space and, on the other hand, needing staff to carry heavy cylinders which could lead to an injury in the workplace.
