As the cost and scarcity of helium rises, laboratories have begun to convert methods to hydrogen carrier gas.
The Flame Ionisation Detector (FID) detector is the most commonly used detector in Gas Chromatography with around 90% of GCs equipped with at least one. The FID can be used in almost any organic analysis, and is sensitive down to the parts-per-billion (PPB) range, which is the reason for its widespread use in GC analysis in areas from oil and gas, to food and pharmaceuticals.

The Precision Zero Air 30L generator is the newest addition to the Precision generator range and has been designed as a single source solution to support an entire lab’s zero air requirement for GC. Using a supply of compressed air either from a dry, oil-free in-house supply, or from a dedicated Precision compressor the generator can provide air to a number of detectors including flame ionisation detector (FID), flame photometric detector (FPD) and nitrogen-phosphorous detector (NPD).
Helium is well known as Helium that makes balloons and airships float and in its liquid form, Helium is used in a variety of applications including cooling for magnets in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners, cooling infrared detectors, and as a superconductor coolant in the large hadron collider at CERN.
